HOW DO YOU STACK UP?
The first part of a successful job search is writing a winning resume. To do so, you need a two-pronged approach:
First, it's gotta be ATS friendly. Applicant Tracking Systems are the software that recruiters and HR teams use to scan resumes and track candidates throughout the application process. A bad format or a lack of the proper keywords, and you'll find yourself in the bottom ranks.
Second, you have to make recruiters actually want to read it. That means showing your value right off the bat. Make their jobs easier by giving them exactly what they need to know to successfully pitch you to their team (i.e. metrics, achievements, skills, etc.)
Then there's the actual application. But if only 20% of open positions are listed online, how do you find the rest?
Networking. And to network properly, your online presence needs to be in tip-top shape.
Remember, you only have 2-6 seconds before someone determines their first impression of you. The same idea applies to your LinkedIn profile - if you don't take control of what your professional branding says about you, your network will.
Now it's about WOWing recruiters. It's about going above and beyond what is asked of you.
People argue over whether or not cover letters are dying. In some ways, they are - but for those hiring managers that expect the extra effort, it's always good practice to send one anyways. Same thing goes for a follow up and thank you letter after an interview.
It's always better to be safe than sorry.
THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE IT INTO THE 5%
